Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom Teeth Extraction
What is it?
Removal of wisdom teeth is a surgical procedure that consists in a small insicion in the gum for the extraction of the third set of molars or “wisdom teeth”.
Some of the reasons why these teeth have to be removed are:
- They are impacted
- They come in the wrong angle
- The patients jaw is not big enough for this set of molars
- The patient has difficulty maintaining the higiene of these teeth
The tooth is extracted in whole or surgically cut into parts, which can be removed by elements if the entire tooth cannot be removed once.
Depending on the size of the insicion, a self dissolve suture is done to avoid bleeding and help healing of the gum.
Duration: 1 hour.
Anesthesia: Local with IV sedation if necessary.
Side effects: Pain and swelling.
Recovery: 1 to 2 weeks.
